Iconic Comedian Javed Kodu, Star of 150+ Films, Dies at 63 in Lahore

Renowned Pakistani actor and comedian Javed Kodu, celebrated for his roles in over 150 Punjabi and Urdu films and stage productions, passed away on April 12, 2025, at the age of 63 after a prolonged illness. According to reports, Kodu had been receiving treatment at Lahore’s General Hospital before his death.
Born in 1962, Kodu began his acting career in 1981 and became a household name despite facing challenges due to his short stature due to dwarfism. He performed in thousands of live shows, earning a reputation as a theatre icon in Pakistan. Reports highlight his resilience against societal discrimination and professional mockery, with Kodu often discussing the emotional toll of being ridiculed on stage by co-stars. Yet, his grace and humor won over audiences, making him a beloved figure in Pakistani entertainment.


In a recent interview with Daily Pakistan, Kodu shared his struggles with inflation, noting its impact on him and his peers in the entertainment industry. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed deep grief over Kodu’s death, stating that it created a “void in the media world that would be difficult to fill.”
Kodu leaves behind his son Salman Kodu and another son, Shera, who is a performer on the show Mazaaq Raat, continuing his father’s legacy in comedy. Posts on X also reflect widespread mourning, with fans remembering Kodu’s inspiring words: “Never doubt yourself just because you’re short.”
